For Wellington Park to be a special place, accessible and enjoyed by all for its prominent landscape, natural and cultural diversity, and community value

Wellington Park Management Trust

The Wellington Park Management Trust is an independent management authority set up under the Wellington Park Act 1993. Membership of the Trust is specified in the Act, and comprises an independent Chair together with the Director-General of Lands, the Director of Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service and the CEO of Tourism Tasmania (or their nominees), plus 2 nominees of City of Hobart, and 1 nominee from each of Glenorchy City Council and TasWater.

The Trust is responsible for managing and protecting the diverse natural and cultural heritage of Wellington Park. The Park comprises 14 separate land parcels owned by the Crown, City of Hobart and Glenorchy City Council. The Trust's role is one of strategy and regulation, in partnership with the on-ground management of the land owners.

The Trust develops and periodically updates the Wellington Park Management Plan, a statutory document that provides for sustainable opportunities for recreation and tourism, while conserving the environmental, cultural and water catchment values of the Park. The current Management Plan, released in 2013 and amended in 2015, provides for an increased emphasis on the provision of visitor services and facilities while providing for the management of natural and cultural values.

How does the Trust assess proposed developments in Wellington Park?

The Trust meets 5 times each year, and meeting minutes are available to view below.
