Scientific plant & animal collection

Non-threatened flora

To collect or disturb non-threatened flora for scientific purposes, an application form must be submitted to the Trust at least 2 weeks before commencement.

Threatened flora

Th disturb or collect threatened flora, apply for a permit to collect threatened flora through the Dept of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania. In your application, please nominate that you will be undertaking the activity in Wellington Park. Threatened Species Unit staff within the department are authorised to sign permits on behalf of the Trust.

Fauna

A scientific permit is usually required for any research involving the collection or disturbance of protected wildlife in Tasmania. Protected wildlife includes:


  • all rare and threatened species
  • most native vertebrates and their products
  • some introduced vertebrates
  • some native invertebrates
  • all animals and their products on reserved land


All fauna is listed as protected under the Nature Conservation Act 2002. To collect fauna, apply for a permit through the Dept of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania.  Scientific Research Permits staff within the department are authorised tp sign permits on behalf of the Trust.
