Wellington Park is an open access reserve. The Park is open at all times except for Extreme or Catastrophic fire danger days. There are numerous recreational trail access points around the perimeter of the Park (no vehicle access without a permit). The only road access into the Park is Pinnacle Road. Jefferys Track in the west of the Park is also an open public road but is suitable for 4WDs only. Pinnacle Road is managed by the City of Hobart and is closed when ice and/or snow are present. As a safety precaution, Council will also close the road pre-emptively when ice and/or snow is forecast. Check Pinnacle Rd Status
No, there is no visitor centre in Wellington Park.
There is no cafe at The Pinnacle (the top of kunanyi / Mount Wellington). The only food and beverage service in Wellington Park is the Lost Freight Cafe at The Springs, which operates from a converted shipping container.
No. No drones of any size can be launched or landed within Wellington Park without a permit from the Wellington Park Management Trust. Penalties apply.
Pinnacle Rd is sealed all the way to the top of kunanyi / Mount Wellington and is suitable for conventional vehicles. The road is narrow and winding and is also used by tour buses. Please drive carefully and obey all signage. The kunanyi / Mt Wellington Explorer Bus also offers a shuttle service from the Hobart waterfront to the summit, including several stops along the way.
Wellington Park is not a national park, and a Parks Pass is not required to enter. Entry into Wellington Park is free.
For the most part, Wellington Park is managed as a recreational day-use area and opportunities to camp are very limited, noting that there is no designated camping infrastructure in the Park. Camping is not permitted anywhere on the mountain’s lower eastern foothills (contained within the Recreation Zone). Rough camping is permitted within the Park’s Natural Zone, provided that it does not negatively impact on other visitors, or the Park’s natural, cultural and water quality values.

Where dogs are allowed, they must ALWAYS be on a lead. There are no off-leash areas in the Park. Dogs are not permitted to leave your vehicle at the summit of kunanyi / Mount Wellington. Dogs may be walked through The Springs on-leash to access dog-friendly tracks. If you are staying around The Springs for a picnic, dogs must be left safely inside your vehicle.
There are basic toilet facilities available at Fern Tree Park, The Springs, The Pinnacle, and Myrtle Forest.
Ashes may be scattered in Wellington Park, provided that it is just ashes and there are no monuments, flowers/petals or other tributes left behind. Please choose an area that is out of sight of tracks, outside of drinking water catchment zones, and downwind of people and infrastructure.
Wellington Park is a public space, and therefore simple, basic wedding services require no approval. Huts or other areas of the Park are not available to be booked for exclusive use. If a wedding party wanted to hold a reception in the Park with tables, marquees etc, a permit from the Trust would be required. Wedding bouquets and other ornamental vegetation must not be left in the Park. It is not permitted to bring butterflies into the Park or to release them within the Park.
