Horse riding, four wheel driving and other activities beyond that of normal Park use as specified in the Wellington Park Management Plan or the Wellington Park Regulations, require permits. If an activity involves access through gates and barriers, you will need a permit. Unusual activities or events may require a permit, so please contact the Trust to discuss.
Horse riding in Wellington Park is permitted on several nominated fire trails. A permit and gate key are required for all riding access. Short or long term access permits are available through the Southern Region Office of the Parks and Wildlife Service (ph 03 6165 4053). Permits are not required to ride along Jefferys Track in the west of the Park.
Four-wheel driving is permitted on specific fire trails only. A permit and gate key are required for vehicle access. Dogs, including dogs in vehicles, are not permitted in that part of the Park crossed by the East West Trail. Jefferys Track in the west of the Park is a public road - no permits or keys required.
Rough bush camping is permitted in the Natural Zone of Wellington Park. Camping in other parts of the Park, or in conjunction with horse riding or 4WDriving, is prohibited without a permit. This includes the overnight use of huts and shelters and the overnight parking and use of campervans, caravans and other vehicles.
