Tasmania Fire Service is planning to conduct a fuel reduction burn this autumn at Humphreys Rivulet, Glenorchy. The burn is being carefully planned by the Tasmanian Fire Service in conjunction with Glenorchy City Council, City of Hobart and the Wellington Park Management Trust.
An information session for nearby residents and stakeholders was held on 26 April at Tolosa Park. Staff from the Tasmanian Fire Service, Glenorchy City Council, the City of Hobart and the Wellington Park Management Trust were on hand to discuss any issues raised by residents and stakeholders.
More information about the Fuel Reduction Program can be found at fire.tas.gov.au

UDPATE 27 APRIL: Burn completed however the council team may return to tackle small areas that were not treated in the initial burn on 21 April.
The City of Hobart plans to carry out a fuel reduction burn at Brushy Hill in Wellington Park on Tuesday 21 April 2026. The burn will be visible from Lenah Valley and surrounding areas. The map shows the planned burn site, which may be closed for a number of days. Please keep clear of the burn site and follow track closure signs to help us keep everyone safe. There will be no entry or exit into Wellington Park from Lenah Valley Road.
Should the weather on the day be unsuitable, the burn will be postponed to a future date. The City of Hobart’s fuel reduction burn program is part of council's efforts to reduce the risk of destructive bushfire to Hobart’s community, visitors and the natural environment.

Weather permitting, the Tasmania Fire Service will be conducting a fuel reduction burn on Wednesday 22nd April at Wellington Park, Glenorchy, as part of the state-wide Fuel Reduction Program which is aimed at reducing the bushfire risk to help protect lives and communities.
The total area of this burn will be approximately 9 hectares, and is likely to take 1-2 days to complete. Smoke may persist some days afterward depending on wind conditions. During burning operations public access to this area will be restricted. The public is asked to remain well out of the burn site while the burn is taking place and for the following days until safety checks have been made along tracks and trails. Please comply with directions from staff or any signs if you are in the area.
While the fire intensity will be low, it will generate flames, smoke and ash. People with medical conditions are advised to have a personal plan for avoiding smoke from the burn.
Further information about this burn is available by contacting the Tasmania Fire Service on phone 1800 000 699 or email BRU@fire.tas.gov.au. A map of planned burns is available on the TFS website at www.fire.tas.gov.au/Show?pageId=colWhatsBurningNow
